The 1901 Census shows his mother, Hannah, to be the Head of the Household living at No.74, Murray Street, West Hartlepool, with children Polly (aged 17, Dressmaker), Emily (16, General Domestic Servant), Christopher (14), James L. (13), and Sarah (4). Also in the household at this time is a Boarder, 21-year old Frederick J. Allinson.
James married Laura Victoria Bidwell Webber (date unknown), and were living at No.47 Thornville Road, West Hartlepool, at the time of his death.
