Lost on the steamship Wathfield, of West Hartlepool.
Edward Snaith was born at West Hartlepool on February 3rd, 1870, to parents John (a Sawyer), and Mary Ann Snaith, and baptised on February 27th. The family are recorded as living at Middleton at this time.
The 1871 Census shows John and Mary living in Church Street, Middleton, with their four children; Mary A. (aged 10), Sarah E. (8), Thomas (6), Ralph (4), and Edward (1).
The 1881 Census shows daughters Mary and Sarah are no longer in the household, however, the family has now grown with the addition of Barbara (aged 9), twins Hannah and Margaret (6), George R. (3), and William (2). Their address is given as No.29, Commercial Street, Hartlepool.
Eldest sons Thomas and Edward (aged 16 and 14 respectively), are both listed as Apprentice Engine Fitters.
It appears that Edward did not marry.
