Charles Bertie Sparke was born at Hartlepool to parents Charles John (a Grocer), and Agnes Sparke, and was baptised at Holy Trinity Church on March 4th, 1894. The family are recorded as living in Frederic Street, Hartlepool, at this time.
Charles Bertie was baptised on the 14th March 1894 at Holy Trinity Church , Hartlepool . He attended Hartlepool Throston Board Infant (Boys) School and was admitted April 1897 and born in February 1894. His father Charles, Grocer, 65 Frederic Streeet. He was withdrawn in February 1900, no reason given.
The 1911 Census shows Charles (listed as a Grocer & General Dealer), and Agnes living at No.65, Frederic Street, Hartlepool, with their five children: Marjorie (aged 21, Saleswoman), James (19, Marine Engineer), Charles Bertie (17, Marine Engineer), William (15), and Mary Bonas (7).
At the time of Charles Bertie's death, his parents are recorded as living at No.49, Thornton Street, West Hartlepool. Charles Bertie Sparke’s Probate record gives the same address of 49 Thornton Street, West Hartlepool . Administration was granted 14th April 1917 to Charles John Sparke, Grocers Assistant. Effects £224.15s 8d.
Charles was killed on West Hartlepool ship SS Wathfield when she was hit by a submarine en route to Malta carrying a cargo of magnesite. His name is on the Tower Hill
