She was abandoned on 5 March 30 miles from Fayal because of the hawser parting. The tug Condor of St Michael’s went to her assistance.
Bound from Hamburg for Hong Kong, while at anchor in the Elbe at Cuxhaven on 23 December 1900, the Weser sprang a leak & sank after being run into by the German steamer Milano. The crew of the Weser were picked up by the Milano’s boats.
