The handsome steel screw steamer, Flixton, which has just been completed by Messrs. William Gray and Co., for the Deddington Steamship Company, Limited (Messrs. H. Samman and Company, managers) Hull, was yesterday sent to sea for her trial trip.
The vessel has been built to Lloyd’s highest class, and is of the following dimensions, viz.: Length over all, 392ft.; breadth, 51ft.; and depth, 27ft. 3in. She has an extra long bridge, poop, and top-gallant forecastle, and all requirements for a first class cargo steamer are fitted.
Triple-expansion engines, having cylinders 26in., 42 in., and 70in. diameter, with a piston stroke of 48in., have been supplied from the Central Marine Engineering Works of the builders, together with three large steel boilers adapted for working at 180lbs pressure, an evaporator, pumps, and other engine-room auxiliaries.
The owners were represented by Mr. Samman and Mr. Walter Sage, Mr. James Innes was present on behalf of Lloyd’s Registry. The results obtained were highly satisfactory, and on completion of the trial the vessel at once proceeded to her loading port.
