				On a voyage from New York for Alexandra with a cargo of Government stores & a total compliment of 48 Sheaf Crown was in convoy DN-21 when it was torpedoed by German submarine (U-160 Jorg Lassen) ENE of London. She was damaged & abandoned by her crew. She was later towed to East London & repaired. Sources state 1 gunner was killed but CWGC also lists a merchant seaman.
Lives lost 4 March 1943: Bell, John Thomas, donkeyman, 32, South Shields; Butterworth, James Allan, able seaman (Royal Navy) aged 21, Bury, Lancs.
