Fate

The steamship Burnstone was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine UB-62, 44 miles north of the Farne Isles on March 19th, 1918. The ship was on a voyage from Immingham to an unknown destination carrying a cargo of coal.

Five crew were lost including George Green of West Hartlepool.

The other crewmen who lost their lives were: Billett, Arthur Somers; Hogarth, Joseph; Todd, Alfonso; Walters, Stephen Maitland.
