Fate

The steamship Lord Charlemont was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U-34, 22 miles north of Alboran Island, Morocco, on April 19th, 1918. The ship was on a voyage from La Spezia, Italy, to Gibraltar in ballast.

Eight crew were lost including Hartlepool-born 3rd Engineer John Phillipson Keasey.

The other crewmen who lost their lives were: Ah Fong; Chai Sin Lai; Cheung Fook; Chow Fook; Kai Lum; Shun Kan; Tao Lum.
