Fate

The steamship Wega was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine UC-71, 20 miles west of the Royal Sovereign Light Vessel, on June 14th, 1917. The ship was on a voyage from Hartlepool to Cowes with a cargo of coal.

5 crew were lost including three from the Hartlepools:
John George Copeman, Fireman; James Davidson, Fireman; and William Walton, 2nd Engineer. 

The other crewmen who lost their lives were: Axel Andersen, and Frederick John Clark.
