Fate

The hired Hospital Ship Rewa was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U-55, some 19 miles off Hartland Point, Devon, on January 4th, 1918. The ship was bringing more than 270 wounded soldiers back to Britain all of whom were safely evacuated, however, four engine room crew were killed. It is likely that 3rd Officer John George Frank of West Hartlepool was injured during the sinking, as he died on June 4th, 1918 in London.
