On a voyage from Abadan for Mormugao, Takoradi, Freetown & the UK with a general cargo including manganese ore, oil seeds & rubber with a total complement of 78 Bandar Shapour was torpedoed by German submarine U-515 (Werner Henke) & sank between Takoradi & Freetown on 30 April 1943. The survivors were picked up by HMS Birdlip. One passenger was lost. Master Wilfred Allinson Chappell.
