Fate

The West Hartlepool-registered steamship Castle Eden was torpedoed and sunk by the German submarine U-110, (Korvettenkapitan Karl Kroll), 4 miles off Inistrahull Lighthouse, on March 4th, 1918. The ship was on a voyage from the Clyde (Greenock) to Belfast (Loch Swilly), with a cargo of coal and general goods. One life was lost.
