Fate

The West Hartlepool-owned steamship Aries was sunk by gunfire from the German submarine U-50 (Gerhard Berger), west of Ireland on February 25th, 1917. The ship was on a voyage from Melilla, Spain, to Glasgow with a cargo of iron-ore. Her Master, R. Newton, was made prisoner.
