Graythorp School

Details about Graythorp School

Graythorp Village was founded by Sir William Gray who built a shipyard on the Seaton Creek entry into the River Tees. The village, eventually within the town boundary of West Hartlepool, was built to house the workers at the shipyard. A school was built and opened in 1926 by Durham County Council  (another having been built at nearby Seaton Snooks in 1917).

There is now no sign of the school which closed in 1957 or the original village apart from some of the road layouts leading to a small trading estate.
