Fate

On a voyage from Port Said, Aden for Lourenco Marques, Rio de Janeiro & Buenos Aires with a cargo of bauxite & pinewood & 57 persons on board including 8 gunners Sarthe was torpedoed by German submarine U-68 (Karl Friedrich Merten) & broke in two & sank SW of the Cape of Good Hope in 34.50S/18.40E on 8 October 1940.
