Antias - a general history

With the dissolution of the Hartlepool & Durham Shipping Co an auction was held on 15 April 1851 at the Wheat Sheaf Inn at Hartlepool to sell all 12 of their vessels including Antias.
Newcastle Courant, Friday, March 28th, 1851:
FOR SALE BY AUCTION, At the Broker’s Office, No.12, Canning Place, Liverpool, on Wednesday, the 2nd Day of April next, at One o’clock in the afternoon,
The fine Copper-fastened and coppered Brig “ANTIAS”, of Hartlepool, Burthen 304/325 tons, lying in the Queen’s Dock, Liverpool; built in 1816? and classed 8 years at Lloyd’s; is in excellent Order …. And only offered for sale in consequence of the Dissolution of the Hartlepool and Durham Commercial Shipping Company.

In September 1855 she was advertised for sale after having being thoroughly overhauled by George Blumer:
Shipping and Mercantile Gazette, Tuesday, October 2nd, 1855:
At HARTLEPOOL. The A1 Brig ANTIAS, of 325 tons. This vessel is now on the slipway of Mr. George Blumer, where she has had extensive repairs, under the supervision of Mr. John M’Ewen, Lloyd’s Surveyor, and of Mr. William Garritt, surveyor to the Hartlepool Marine Insurance; her spars, rigging, sails, boats and other stores, have been thoroughly overhauled and refitted. She is a vessel possessed of excellent properties, and being in superior order is an eligible investment for any purchaser.

Voyages: 1850 Clyde for Lima; 1854 Bristol for the Mediterranean.
Was Spoken, outward bound, July 1, 1850, in lat. 46 N. long. 9 W (western Bay of Biscay).

Antias stranded near Cimbritsham on the Swedish coast on 11 July 1858 & with nine feet of water in her hull she was condemned as a wreck.
