Fate

The West Hartlepool-registered steamship Australian Transport was torpedoed and sunk by UC-27 (Otto Gerke), 40 miles north-west of Marettimo, Sicily, on August 23rd, 1918. The ship was on a voyage from Karachi to Bizerta with a cargo of wheat and onions. Master T. Garbutt. One crewman was lost.
